LIVE WEBINAR
Psychosocial Risks and Musculoskeletal Disorders: A Safety Management Systems Approach

AUGUST
18th
2:00pm ET

Job stress isn’t just about job satisfaction or the likelihood that you are searching for a new job. Job-related stress impacts your physical well-being. Maybe it seems obvious that extra stress at work affects your blood pressure and your chances of having a heart attack, but it also impacts your aches and pain.

Your job might really be a pain in the neck, or any other body area. Over the years, this relationship between work-related stress and bodily injury has been included in other initiatives, including macro-ergonomics, psychosocial risks, and total worker health. For instance, workplace stress causes muscles to tighten, which elevates risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

The unique challenges associated with living and working during the COVID-19 pandemic have raised awareness of the impact of stress on our physical well-being. Job-related stress is considerably more complex than just our workload or work/life balance, although both are important elements. This webinar will explore some common causes of workplace stress, the link between stress and musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) injuries, and practical steps that employers can take to reduce workplace stress and reduce the risk of injuries.

Attendees of this session will learn:

  • The relationship between stress, psychosocial risks, and physical and mental health outcomes
  • How elements of work (workplace design, the nature of job tasks, and work lengths/schedules) increase stress and risk of workplace injuries
  • How the management of psychosocial risks fits into the scope of a safety management system as modeled by ISO 45001
  • How to address ergonomic risk factors and features of work that likely result in psychosocial risks at the design stage
