OSHA’s Recordkeeping Standard is one of the agency’s oldest and most widely applicable regulations, and one of the most difficult standards to follow. If you’re like most EHS professionals, you often have questions about the criteria for classifying occupational injuries and illnesses as recordable, and about how to properly complete the required OSHA forms. Difficulties have compounded in recent years due to OSHA’s requirement for employers at some establishments to electronically submit injury and illness records using the Injury Tracking Application (ITA), which was recently updated and expanded in a 2023 final rule that went into effect in January 2024. Due to this update, some establishments must now report electronic Form 300 and Form 301 data in addition to Form 300A data.
